EDITogether: Trans-disciplinary practices for knowledge sharing and networking for digital creative industries

Resume

EDITogether: “Transdisciplinary practices for knowledge exchange and creation of networks for mutual assistance in the field of digital creative industries” is an international daylong festival encouraging the collaboration between representatives of different segments in the creating industries. In the framework of three particular parallel workshops and a unifying final event, digital entrepreneurs, established businesses, artists, as well as representatives of local and European institutions, will have the opportunity to find intersections in their work and establish partnerships.

Description

EDITogether Varna is the largest networking event for the digital and creative industries during the year. It targets 350 founders of digital companies and more than 50 artists across the country. The event will also inaugurate the ‘’EDIT on the Road’’ initiative. There are two main differences from other events with similar concept: EDITogether aims to create a networking environment outside of Sofia which has been the main centre for start-ups in the country so far. Secondly, the event in Varna will bring together digital entrepreneurs with artists, musicians, as well as representatives of local, national and European institutions. There are multiple start-up ecosystems spread across Bulgaria. Whilst Sofia has a high concentration of new companies, technological infrastructure, risk capital, know-how resources, contacts and to a certain extent, business knowledge, outside of the Capital the start-up culture is still at a very early stage of development. On the other hand, Varna deserves its lead role on the cultural and youth scene of the country thanks to the annual and regular events in these two key directions. This proves that there is a critically-thinking group of people being present there, engaged in the cultural development and involvement of young people in society. Varna, as a European Youth Capital 2017, sets the right environment to bring together the two key groups for the future development of the socio-economic processes in Bulgaria – the new entrepreneurs (start-ups) and the representatives of contemporary arts and new waves in culture. There is the first and most important prerequisite for the establishment of a successful dialogue and sustainable partnerships, with the potential to create new cultural and business products with high value-added, because both groups fall in the same age category – up to 35 years of age. With the launch of EDITogether we aim to fill in a number of gaps so that the interdisciplinary network mentioned above is established. On one hand, there is a need for inspiration, know-how and support for the local business start-ups. For this we plan to present to the local societies gathered in Varna suggested models to be followed, business and management skills as well as instruments for growth. Secondly, the already established start-up network in Sofia has the necessary know-how for generating innovative business models in support of creative products – one of the biggest challenges for artists globally. It is also important to use this project to reach the individual start-up groups from across the country. It is necessary to better understand the start-up scene in the country, map and investigate its specifications, challenges and potential in order to address its needs better. Among the priorities of the project is the presentation of the best international example in the field of transdisciplinary partnership. For this purpose, half of the official participants in the festival are foreign guests - representatives of European institutions, global companies and creative collectives. Last but not least, with the current inter-disciplinary event we also aim to create the instruments which the creative industries can use to support the increase in value added of start-up products and services.

Target

The aim of the project is to create conditions for unfolding the potential of both communities. On the one hand, the representatives of the creative industries could gain experience from entrepreneurs and businessmen, who could help with the realisation of commercial creative products. Simultaneously, the representatives of the digital startups will get access to the creative potential, necessary for finding the unique competitive advantage of the Bulgarian business.
